Zimbabwe is home to probably the finest
furniture wood in the world, Zimbabwe Teak also known as Zambezi Teak. At
Savanna Wood we are proud to be associated with this magnificent resource, and
to have been entrusted with the preservation and utilisation of a large
portion of this most important sector of our national heritage. While a number
of manufacturers utilise this unique resource,
 we at Savanna Wood have not been content to
convert it into second rate garden furniture or decking for the mass market
south of the Limpopo. We have taken this superb resource and converted it into
magnificent products befitting its origin. What could be a better testament to
the Zimbabwe Teak Tree than a Savanna Wood Ndlovu or Boardroom table?
Savanna Wood work closely with
the
Forestry Commission to ensure that only
sustainable levels of timber are harvested from the forest entrusted to them.
Detailed audits are carried out annually to
assess regrowth of previously harvested areas and sustainable volumes for the
next years off take.
In association with the Forestry Commission we have initiated various
community projects to ensure that the communities living near the forest
benefit directly from the forest and therefore support Savanna Wood’s
operations there. This will guarantee the long term security of this most
important National asset. The 1.6 million hectares (4 million acres) of
Zimbabwe Teak forest in Matabeleland North act as a huge carbon sink, helping
to keep Zimbabwe carbon neutral in this age of global warming!

strength and beautiful grain and coloring of Zambezi Teak. Our products are
neither stained nor filled to hide blemishes or poor workmanship. We
prefer the character of a beautiful, honest piece of furniture painstakingly
fashioned by hand.

 Traditional
construction methods are used. Drawers and boxes are joined with stopped
dovetail and through dovetail joints, difficult to make but extremely strong.
Carcasses, frames and legs are joined with mortice and tennon joints that are
machined using the best Italian made machines to ensure a perfect, snug fit
that guarantees the integrity of each joint we make. Such accuracy could never
be achieved by hand. Unlike other manufacturers all pieces are solid wood
right through. All drawer bases, backs of cabinets, even concealed components
are solid wood, with no plywood or hardboard used. Fittings are of the highest
quality. Hinges are solid brass, and drawer slides are of the finest imported
roller bearing
construction.
